Beehive Oven Event Jan. 27

Are you passionate about Colonial cooking and Colonial history?

Would you like to learn how food is baked in a traditional beehive oven?

Join us on Sun., Jan. 27 from noon to 3 p.m. as our open hearth cook bakes her great-grandmother’s favorite recipes in the working beehive oven at the c. 1829 Caleb Nickerson Homestead. Early in the day we will will fire up the beehive oven—one of the few working beehive ovens on Cape Cod. Following that, Maureen Leavenworth, an expert in beehive oven baking, will demonstrate how to bake a variety of authentic 18thand 19thcentury dishes. If you wish, you can bring an oven-ready dish to bake and take home with you. There is a $20 oven firing fee and space is limited. The Caleb Nickerson Homestead is at 1107 Orleans Road, North Chatham. To register for the event or to volunteer at the Caleb Nickerson Homestead, contact Debra at DebraNFA@outlook.com.
