Archaeologist Craig Chartier will give a free Zoom talk on the several seasons of the excavation of William and Anne’s c. 1664 homestead behind the NFA campus on Thurs., May 27 at 7 p.m.
He will offer updates and insights into the 2016-2019 dig which has revealed William and Anne Nickerson’s homestead and its outbuildings as well as many fascinating artifacts that have given a window into the Nickersons’ lives as pioneers in what became Chatham.
Chartier will also talk about what he hopes to accomplish through the laboratory tests for which the NFA has applied for a $31,000 Community Preservation Act (CPA) grant. The tests will reveal information on the local flora and tell us more about the entire environment that the Nickersons lived in. During the 2019 season the team learned more about William Nickerson’s rare blacksmithing operation as well as finished delineating the house and palisade.
The talk is sponsored by the Eldredge Public Library. Registration is required as spaces are limited. To register, click here: http://www.eventkeeper.com/mars/xpages/E/EPL/EKP.cfm?curOrg=EPL&curMonth=5&curYear=2021&SelectedDate=5/27/2021#5/27/2021
