Our Mission

The Caleb Nickerson Homestead is preserved and operated as a self-sustaining museum and educational venue charged with demonstrating the lost arts and crafts practiced by the Nickerson family and its contemporaries from the late 17th century to the late 19th century.

What to Expect

  • Tour the Caleb Nickerson Homestead, a circa-1829 antique Cape with its three hearths and working beehive oven, from June to October.
  • Peep into the reproduction post-and-beam outhouse built by our period carpenter.
  • See what is growing and ready to harvest in the heirloom kitchen garden managed by our master gardener.
  • Walk the grounds of this historic landmark where Chatham’s first English settlers made their home in 1664. You can also visit the site of William and Anne’s home behind the NFA campus.
  • Interested in Archaeology? Coming soon is an artifact exhibit at the homestead.

Guided tours of the Caleb Nickerson Homestead are available from June to October. The homestead is now open every Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm and on Sundays, July 9 and 23 and August 6 and 20 from 1 to 4 pm. A docent will take you through the charming c. 1829 house!

Visitors of all ages welcome. Donations welcomed.
