"Early Encounters: Native Americans and Europeans in New England" from the papers of W. Sears Nickerson (1880-1966), a ninth-generation descendant of William and Anne Nickerson, is a classic. Nickerson identified about 1300 native Americans by name. He "assembled them into families where possible, and groups the families into the three Tribes into which they seem naturally to fall, namely The Monomoyicks, The Nawsets, and the Sauquatuckets... Taken as a whole, my Papers give a complete picture of Indian Life on the Lower Cape." The book was edited by Delores Bird Carpenter and published by Michigan State University Press in 1994.
